Curriculum Statement for Music

The staff of St Patrick’s R.C. Primary are committed to delivering the National Curriculum for Music but we recognise the unique nature of our School. We acknowledge that many of our children speak English as an additional language and some of our children come into school with limited experiences and therefore we put a special emphasis on singing Nursery Rhymes and other songs in our Early Years.

Where possible we seek to promote ‘sentence stems’ in our lessons to help children speak in supported sentences where necessary. We look for opportunities to reinforce vocabulary so the children understand the words being used and meet them numerous times. We also seek to be sensitive to the backgrounds of the children and work to include everyone.

Due to the multicultural nature of our school we seek to find out about music from around the world and encourage children to listen to and appreciate many different types of music.

We follow the EYFS framework and National Curriculum which set out what children should know by the end of each key stage.
